” (Instagram) is not going anywhere. Why not join the party?” 🎉 – Jennifer Aniston.
If you’re like my friend Jen (yes I know, “in your dreams, girl”) who recently joined the party, then welcome! 😃 🥂
And if you’re like me, an entrepreneur who joined the party to promote her biz, then you need a solid guidance to help you grow your brand.
As you start using Instagram, you’ll soon realize there’s so much to learn about it: the culture, the jargon, the strategies, the changes in the algorithm, the fierce competition. Overwhelming, right? 🤯
But have no fear. It’s a learning process where strategy and practice are key to get the results you want. 🧘♂️
What You Need to Know If You’re Getting Started on Instagram
In order to start bringing attention to your new IG account, you need to be strategic about it. Here are 7 key things you should act on today!
1. Know your why.
Are you on Instagram to promote your business, to start a new one, or perhaps to build connections? Why do you think this tool will help you achieve your business goals?
Knowing your why will help to set a proper business strategy, where your actions will lead to your main goal.
2. Identify your ideal customer
Do you know who your ideal client is? Making a customer persona of your ideal client will help you create good quality content for her/him.
The idea is that you have a picture of who you’re writing for so you will create a more personalized content.
3. Planning is everything
Avoid the temptation of posting whenever you feel like it. Use the app Planoly and schedule your posts in advance.
4. Use relevant hashtags
Choosing hashtags relevant to your niche will help you get discovered by your ideal audience. Here you can find the best practices to use Instagram hashtags. Also, I recommend you to follow @theinstagramexpert the best lady in town to master Insta for business.
5. Engage with your audience
Interacting consistently with your audience will help you build meaningful connections and grow your online credibility. Plus, this will send Instagram’s algorithm hints that yours is a high quality account, giving you in return more visibility on the app.
So, be genuine and helpful when you like or comment on other people’s posts. And also, remember to reply to your audience’s comments on your posts.
6. Write awesome copy
By no means I’m suggesting you become the next William Shakespeare, but that you learn how to write fun and persuasive copy for your readers.
Writing better copy will make your audience get inspired, curious or excited about what you have to say.
There are plenty of free or paid online resources where you can learn how to write great copy. I personally recommend this online course on Udemy, and to follow @copywritertay.
7. Be Yourself
You can get inspired by others, see what they’re doing and what they could do better. But stay true to yourself. Make your strenghts shine and work on your weaknesses.
Sure, there is a lot more to learn about this app, but start by working on the tips mentioned above.
Now it’s time to have some fun. I created the following quiz to help you find out your Insta style. Are you in?
